My family lives a pretty healthy lifestyle, but we make it a point to allow ourselves a few indulgences every now and then. My kids definitely inherited my sweet tooth so we love desserts of all sorts. Our favorite way to enjoy dessert is with something we create or bake together as my kids love to help out (and lick frosting off their fingers!) With our busy lifestyles, we don’t always have time to bake from scratch, which is why I’m so excited to have recently learned about Doorstep Desserts.
Doorstep Desserts is a dessert subscription service that will send pre-portioned ingredients to your doorstep for a ready to make dessert. You can order as often as you’d like whether weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, whatever works for your family. The desserts are very simple to prepare in just a few easy steps, so they’re perfect for kids to make, even on their own! Cakes come pre-baked so you may just need to slice layers and spread frosting or break it up to roll into cake balls.
We were able to try Doorstep Desserts for four weeks and had so much fun with it! Each week we were able to choose from two different desserts and we loved everything we tried! First we received Chocolate Overload Truffles that were easily made by breaking up the pre-baked cakes and mixing them with icing. We then rolled them in crunchy chocolate pieces for a yummy finishing touch.
My 8-year old son was easily able to do most of the work involved in making the Chocolate Overload Truffles from Doorstep Desserts. He broke up the chocolate cake with a fork, mixed in the icing and helped me roll the truffles into balls and dip them in the crunchy chocolate. He also helped me eat them of course! This recipe made 10 truffles, which was a perfect treat for our family of 4 without being excessive.
Our second week with Doorstep Desserts brought us another truffle recipe, this time Red Velvet Cake truffles. These were again a quick and easy assembly process involving breaking up the cake and mixing it with icing, and this time topping the truffles with warmed donut icing. Yum!
I think our family finished off these Red Velvet Cake Truffles in about 5 minutes flat, they were so good! Who could possibly resist donut icing?! We used a bit of the leftover cake crumbs as a topping as recommended which was a nice touch.
For our third dessert, we received ingredients to make wonderful sounding Eclair Cakes. I just split the two supplied cakes in half, spread Bavarian cream on each of the bottom layers and topped with melted fudge icing. I ended up only using about half of the Bavarian cream and icing to cut down the calorie count a bit since I knew I’d be going to town on this one. It was SO delicious. The cakes from Doorstep Desserts are always so moist and perfect!
The Eclair Cakes turned out beautifully as well and would be a fun dessert to serve at a dinner party. I bet they would impress people quite a bit and it only took a few minutes to prepare! My kids again helped out and the cakes still looked beautiful and of course tasted great.
Our most recent delivery from Doorstep Desserts contained ingredients for a 4-layer Red Velvet Cake. It looked gorgeous in the picture, I couldn’t wait to make it! We had friends over for dinner that night and I put it all together right in front of them with my kids’ help. It got a little messy with the kids around and my rush in putting it together, but it still looked and tasted fabulous!
The cakes are mini sized, so we cut this into 6 pieces and it was a perfect dessert for us to share without feeling over the top. What a fun way for the kids to get involved in prepping a meal, they get to be in charge of making a gorgeous dessert!
