Hummus has gained popularity in America in recent years with more and more people looking for healthy but satisfying foods to complement their diets. I am no exception to that trend as I am a hummus fanatic! My problem though, is that I sometimes overindulge and have several of the recommended 2-Tbsp servings in one sitting! When I learned about the new line of Skinnygirl Hummus that is lower in calories AND fat than my usual brand, I had to accept the offer to review the product for my blog readers. Skinnygirl, best known for delicious low-calorie cocktails, has recently expanded its portfolio to include non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, and microwave popcorn. With only 50 calories and 2 grams of fat per serving, Skinnygirl Hummus has nearly 1/3 fewer calories and less than half the fat of my usual brand. So how does it taste?
With a touch of non-fat Greek yogurt added to it, I found that Skinnygirl Hummus was noticeably creamier than traditional hummus and almost seemed more refreshing to me. The samples I received were the Roasted Red Pepper flavor which I found paired great with both of my go-to dippers, pita chips and mini sweet peppers. I also gave a sample to a relative who has Celiac disease (the entire line of Skinnygirl Hummus is gluten-free and also kosher), and she thought it was great with carrots as well. I’m going to make it a point to look for Skinnygirl Hummus next time I shop as I would love to get my hands on the Cilantro Jalapeno and Roasted Garlic flavors, they sound amazing! They also have a Classic flavor for those who prefer a more traditional taste or perhaps for use in recipes.
